Bhubaneswar, Sept 11: Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested an Officer of a Private Cement Company for bribing the Collector in Odisha’s Bargarh district.
The accused has been identified as Rambhav Gattu, Chief Manufacturing Officer (East) of Ambuja Cement, Chhatisgarh.
Gattu was allegedly offering a hefty amount of cash as bribe to Aditya Goyal, Collector of Bargarh in the evening concealing it in sweet packets.
As per reports, Gattu visited the Collector’s office and offered a flower bouquet with a few packs of sweets wherein the bribe money was kept secretly. However, suspecting something foul, the Collector asked an official to open the packs that revealed four bundles of 500-rupee notes worth Rs 2 lakhs in them.
Following this, the Collector informed the Vigilance in this connection. Acting on it, a team of vigilance seized the cash and arrested the accused officer.
A case was registered under Section 8/9/10 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended by the PC Amendment Act, 2018 against Gattu who was later remanded for judicial custody.
