Bhubaneswar, Dec 23: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday reviewed the ambitious redevelopment plan of Shri Ramachandra Bhanj (SCB) Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, with focus to transform the institution into a world-class medical hub.

During a high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan, the Chief Minister described SCB as the largest government medical college in Odisha, serving thousands of patients and attendants every day. He said upgrading its infrastructure and facilities is a top priority to strengthen healthcare delivery and medical education in the state.

A key component of the transformation plan is the construction of a 17-storey (G+16) multi-level parking complex over 6.51 acres to address severe parking congestion on the campus. The facility will cater to visitors of both SCB Medical College and Acharya Harihar Cancer Hospital. While up to 12 floors will be reserved for parking, the remaining floors will house essential academic and administrative facilities, including the administrative block, anatomy block, and B. Pharma and D. Pharma colleges.

The redevelopment blueprint also emphasizes student well-being, with provisions for indoor games and a swimming pool in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The Chief Minister directed the Health and Family Welfare Department to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) without delay.

Progress on 13 housing towers being constructed near the SCB campus was also reviewed. Once completed, the towers will provide 672 residential units along with hostel accommodation for 2,244 students. The Chief Minister instructed officials to expedite construction to ensure early availability of the facilities.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to comprehensive redevelopment, the Chief Minister said the SCB transformation project would set new benchmarks in healthcare infrastructure, patient care, and medical education in Odisha.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Saswat Mishra, Health Department Secretary Aswathy S., National Health Mission Director Dr Brunda D., and other senior officials were present during the review.
