Palakkad (Kerala), October 18: The Palakkad Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced Chenthamara to double life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 3.25 lakh in connection with the 2019 murder of Sajitha. Judge Kenneth George delivered the verdict on Saturday after considering arguments from both the prosecution and defense.

On August 31, 2019, 35-year-old Sajitha was brutally stabbed to death in Palakkad, Kerala. The accused, Chenthamara, attacked her with a chisel, allegedly out of a belief that she had caused tensions within his family, which led to his wife leaving him. Chenthamara was granted bail in 2025, only to go on to kill Sajitha’s husband and mother-in-law. This week, the court convicted him, handing down two life sentences and a monetary penalty.

Public Prosecutor MJ Vijayakumar stated that the accused was found guilty under Section 302 (murder) and Section 449 (house trespass with intent to commit an offence), leading to two life sentences. The court also ordered the fine of Rs 3.25 lakh to be paid to the victim’s daughters as compensation.
