Koraput, Dec 9: A Gram Panchayat (GP) official in Koraput on Tuesday was arrested by Odisha Vigilance sleuths on the charges of corruption.

He was remanded to judicial custody after being trapped red-handed while receiving a bribe worth Rs 20,000, to release a job work order.

The tainted official has been identified as Amarbar Mallick, Accountant-cum-Data Entry Operator (ADEO), Badaput GP under the Boipariguda Blolck of the district. According to report, the ADEO hold an MGNREG working order and demanded bribe to release the same.

On being informed, the sleuths set a trap and caught the ADEO while receiving the bribe. Meanwhile, the bribe money was recovered from the possession of Mallick, and seized.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches were initiated to rule out the DA angles.

Further investigation is underway, said a vigilance official who led the sleuths.
