Melbourne, Aug 6: After five years in the job as Cricket Australia (CA) Chief Executive Nick Hockley is all set to step down from his responsibility after 2025 Summer.
He has been holding various positions in CA for last 13 years. Hockley revealed that it was a difficult decision to make, but he decided to quit office after the ''blockbuster Summer''.
During Covid 19 pandemic, Hockley assumed the Chief Executive position initially in an interim capacity after Kevin Roberts resigned. Many CA staff quit in that period. But later in May 2021 he was appointed on a full time basis.
His success at the helm of affairs included hosting the Test series against India, which in reality helped to revive not only the game but the financial aspects as well.
Interestingly, Hockley's final season in charge of CA will again see India's tour to Australia for a five-Test series. Apart from that, Australia will host the Women's Ashes in January.
Some key events during his tenure as CA Chief Executive, which he handled tactfully are - the controversial departure of Tim Paine as Test captain on the eve of the 2021-22 Ashes and Pat Cummins taking over.
The other key happenings during his tenure includes - During his tenure, former coach Justin Langer's exit, overturning of David Warner's lifetime ban, Aussies winning the T20 and ODI World Cups, World Test Championship title for Australia, women team winning the Commonwealth Games Gold, Australia men's team touring Pakistan.
Earlier, Hockley had been chief executive of the 2020 T20 Women's World Cup and had worked on the 2015 Men's World Cup, having also previously been involved in the London Olympics.
If he is keen to succeed Nick Hockley, then Todd Greenberg, the current CEO of the Australia Cricketers' Association is likely be a frontrunner, revealed a section of Australian media.
