Officials review workers health and mining safety in Bhubaneswar

Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd. (OMC) recently celebrated a major milestone of maintaining zero fatal accidents across its sites for three consecutive years. Officials highlighted this impressive safety record during the corporate-level tripartite OMC safety meeting held in Bhubaneswar. Participants gathered to evaluate current occupational health standards and discuss fresh ways to protect mine workers throughout the region.

Prioritising Worker Well-being

During the Bhubaneswar mining news update, discussions heavily featured welfare amenities and medical facilities provided to field staff. Leaders scrutinized current compliance with mechanical, electrical, and mining regulations to ensure robust protections remain in place. They also reviewed ongoing steps to enforce critical recommendations originating from the 12th National Conference on Safety in Mines.

Praising Digital Innovation

Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) representatives took time to commend OMC for proactively integrating digital technology into their safety protocols. By pushing boundaries with these modern digital tools, the state-run entity is steadily moving closer to its ultimate goal of zero harm within all Odisha mining operations.

Key Dignitaries Present

Dr. Shyam Sundar Prasad, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety (South Eastern Zone, Ranchi), chaired the crucial gathering. Managing Director Shri Sudhansu Mohan Samal, IAS, represented OMC at the highest executive level.

Multiple DGMS experts traveled to participate, including Directors of Mines Safety Shri N Balasubrahmanyam (Region-2) and Shri AK Mishra (Region-1). Deputy Directors Shri T Hari Prasad (Region-1) and Shri U Siva Shankar (Region-2) also joined the dialogue, alongside specialized Mechanical and Electrical Directors from the Ranchi Zone.

Representing the OMC executive team were Shri Sudhanshu Sekhar Khora, IFS (ED, F&E), Shri Alok Pal (Director, HR), Smt. Talat Afreen, OAS (ED, P&A and Head CSR), and Shri Rajesh Mishra (CGM, Production). General Manager of HR Shri Malay Kar and Assistant General Manager of Mines Safety Shri Anurag Ojha were also present to lend their expertise. Furthermore, 18 worker representatives from various mining zones added vital frontline perspectives to the conversation.

Ultimately, everyone left the room sharing a unified commitment to backing responsible practices and securing a safer future for mining professionals.
