Sambalpur, Dec 19: Sambalpur is witnessing a 12-hour bandh today, with farmers leading a protest against what they allege is the mismanagement in the kharif paddy procurement process. The bandh, supported by various trade unions and the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) party, is being observed from 6 am to 6 pm.

Protesters have voiced strong discontent over the government's failure to address ongoing issues regarding the paddy procurement process. Despite repeated pleas, the state government has not resolved grievances related to inadequate transportation facilities and inefficiencies in mandi operations, which began a month ago in western Odisha. These issues have resulted in a backlog of paddy and undue hardships for farmers.

Shops, business establishments, schools, and colleges have been shut down as part of the bandh, with the community rallying behind the farmers' cause. Farmers are accusing the government of neglecting their interests, leading to frustration and the call for a bandh.

If the issues are not addressed promptly, the protests are expected to intensify, with farmers determined to secure their rights and livelihoods.
