BSF on high alert along Indo-Bangla borders in WB

Kolkata, Aug 6: Owing to the escalating crisis in Bangladesh, the Border Security Force (BSF) has been placed on high alert along the India-Bangladesh international borders in West Bengal. 

The newly-appointed Director General (DG) of BSF, Daljit Singh Chaudhury, arrived in Kolkata on Monday to assess the situation. He has since reviewed the circumstances and conferred with top officials of the force's Eastern Command.

During his visit, DG Chaudhury is scheduled to inspect the Benapole-Petrapole border in the North 24 Parganas district. This marks the second day of his visit to West Bengal, with plans to also visit other sensitive border areas. Chaudhury has already toured the floating border outposts in the Sunderbans, which span South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas districts.

Emphasizing the need for heightened security, Chaudhury has stressed the importance of sealing the borders to prevent illegal infiltration attempts amid the Bangladesh crisis. He has specifically called for enhanced security measures at the floating border outposts and the deployment of additional personnel at sensitive points prone to illegal crossings.

In addition, the DG has highlighted the need for increased night patrolling and the use of close-circuit television and night vision cameras, given the likelihood of higher infiltration attempts during nighttime.

The focus is particularly on the South Bengal Frontier, where porous and sensitive border points are more prevalent.
