Bhubaneswar, Sep 17: Drawing a parallel bewteen the British rule and Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the grand old party and its "ecosystem" was angry with him for taking part in Ganesh Puja.
Addressing a rally in Bhubaneswar, Modi asserted that the British colonial rulers had issues with Ganesh Utsav, highlighting its significant role in India’s independence struggle.
PM Modi made the comment in an apparent reference to the criticism by the Congress and other opposition parties for participating in Ganesh Puja rituals at the residence of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud.
"Ganesh Utsav is not only a festival of faith but also a symbol of unity and resistance. Just as the British tried to divide us with their policy of 'Divide and Rule,' today’s power-hungry individuals are also disturbed by Ganesh Puja," Modi stated.
He added that during the colonial era, the British were antagonistic towards Ganesh Utsav, and the same sentiment persists among some contemporary politicians.
In addition to these remarks, Modi highlighted the Subhdra scheme, a key initiative launched by the Odisha government, and emphasized the progress made under the double-engine government.
"We have delivered on our promises at an unprecedented pace," Modi said, referencing the recent opening of all doors at the Jagannath Temple and the Ratna Bhandar.
He also reflected on the completion of the third NDA government's first 100 days at the Centre, noting significant decisions made for the empowerment of the poor, farmers, youth, and women.
Modi shared a personal moment, recounting a visit to an Adivasi family where he was served 'kheer,' which reminded him of his late mother.
"When I was served kheer by an Adivasi mother, it brought back memories of my own mother, who would feed me jaggery on my birthday. Though she is no longer with us, the blessings I received were a heartfelt reminder of her presence," Modi said.
