New Delhi, Feb 5: Delhi Police have arrested Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui, Chairman of Al Falah University, in connection with alleged fraud and irregularities, following complaints lodged by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The police had registered two separate FIRs against Siddiqui, leading to his arrest.

Siddiqui was presented before a Delhi court, which granted the Crime Branch four days of police custody for further investigation into the case. A hearing for the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) charge sheet against Siddiqui and the Al Falah Charitable Trust has been scheduled for February 13, after the ED filed the charge sheet on January 16 in relation to an alleged money laundering case.

The investigation, initiated by the Delhi Police's Crime Branch, alleges that Al Falah University falsely claimed accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to mislead students and parents, inducing admissions and the collection of fees through misrepresentation. The ED has provisionally attached assets as part of its investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The ED’s probe uncovered financial irregularities and links to other criminal activities, including the November 2025 Red Fort car blast that killed 15 people. The driver of the explosive-laden car was identified as Dr. Umar un Nabi, an Assistant Professor at Al Falah University, with other university staff members arrested for their alleged involvement in a "white-collar" terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.

As part of its investigation, the ED conducted searches at multiple locations, recovering cash, digital devices, and financial records. The agency's findings suggest that financial mismanagement and fund diversion occurred within the university and its affiliated institutions.
