Bhubaneswar: Altogether 48 teams including 24 girls from across the country will participate in the 10th Sub-junior National Rugby 7s Championship, scheduled to be held at Kalinga Stadium here from 16th to 21st January 2026, informed Rugby India President Rahul Bose here in a Press Meet on Tuesday.  

 

The six day long championship will be hosted by Odisha Rugby Football Association in joint collaboration with Odisha Government. Total 21 State and three Union Territory boys and girls teams will fight for the top honour.

 

Talking about the importance of the championship, Rugby India president Rahul said “in this U-15 championship more than 600 players will participate here at Kalinga Stadium. In the age group categories, this will be the first semi-contact rugby sports. It will help to develop a bigger talent pool for Rugby India. Presently Indian men and women rugby teams ranked 12th and 6th in Asian rankings respectively. In the process these young talents will help our teams to achieve better ranking in future’.    

 

Among other Sports and Youth Services Department Director Dr Yeddula Vijay, Additional Secretary Bijay Kumar Swain, Ashok Kumar Panda and ORFA President Priyadarshi Mishra were present.
