Basudevpur, July 3: A major breach occurred in the Koper Dam of the ongoing Kanupur Irrigation Project in Basudevpur Block, raising serious concerns of flooding.
The breach was found in the construction of the main dam, and floodwaters have started to flow over it.
The situation has worsened as floodwaters are now threatening the lower areas of the Baitarani River, with towns like Anandapur and Akhuapada facing an increased risk of flooding. The local administration has issued warnings to the residents and has stepped up precautionary measures.
The Koper Dam, which is being constructed to regulate water flow for the irrigation project, had its spillway gates temporarily sealed with soil during the construction process.
The project was initially slated for completion by the end of July, but with this breach, the administration is closely monitoring the situation.
Residents are being advised to stay alert and follow instructions from local authorities as the floodwaters continue to rise.
Efforts to repair the breach and prevent further damage are underway.
