Bhubaneswar, Dec 13: Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPI), Bhubaneswar, successfully conducted a comprehensive fog preparedness dry run today, with active participation from Air Traffic Control (ATC), all airlines, CISF, fire services, engineering and airport operations teams, ground handling agencies, meteorological officials, cab aggregators, and the state police.

The exercise was part of the airport’s proactive measures to ensure safe, smooth, and uninterrupted flight operations during the ongoing fog season, while prioritizing passenger convenience and operational efficiency.

During the dry run, the readiness of both the airside and terminal facilities was verified, including signage, markings, lighting systems, and arrangements to assist passengers. Contingency protocols for flight diversions, delays, and passenger handling were reviewed, while critical equipment such as visibility aids and coordination tools were thoroughly checked.

The responsiveness of stakeholders, effectiveness of inter-agency communication, and rapid decision-making processes were also assessed.

To manage any fog-related flight disruptions, an Operations Control Room has been established at the airport, providing real-time information to all concerned. The control room can be reached at 9437091829.

BPI Airport reaffirmed its commitment to safe operations and enhanced passenger experience, particularly during weather-affected periods such as winter fog.

The airport will continue to work closely with all partner agencies to maintain high standards of preparedness throughout the season.
