Bhubaneswar, November 1: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday performed ground breaking ceremony of SiCSem Private Limited’s Compound Semiconductor Facility at Info Valley here. Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw graced the event virtually.

The compound semiconductor fabrication facility, approved by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), with a capital investment of Rs 2,067 crore will create 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. The facility will have an annual capacity of 60,000 wafers along with a packaging capacity of 96 million units.

The facility will manufacture critical components for electric vehicles, defence systems, railways, and renewable energy. Additionally, a Rs 64 crore Research & Innovation Centre at IIT Bhubaneswar will advance research in Silicon Carbide technology and strengthen the State’s semiconductor ecosystem.

“Today marks a proud moment for Odisha as we take a significant step towards becoming a hub for advanced electronics and semiconductor manufacturing with the Bhoomi Pujan of SiCSem Private Limited’s Compound Semiconductor Facility at Info Valley, Bhubaneswar,” said Chief Minister Majhi.

Maintaining that this milestone reflects the Government’s vision for Atmanirbhar Bharat and showcases Odisha’s progressive policies, world-class infrastructure, and growing innovation ecosystem, Majhi said, “Our government has consistently focused on developing future-ready sectors through dedicated policies in semiconductors, electronics, AI, and emerging technologies, making Odisha one of India’s most investment-friendly destinations.”

“Odisha is deeply committed to building a strong, self-reliant, and technology-driven economy. We are creating a seamless ecosystem for investors through progressive policies, skill development, modern infrastructure, and industry-academia collaboration,” said Majhi.
