Mumbai, May 1: The film industry came together under one roof to celebrate the success of veteran actor-filmmaker Boman Irani’s Spiral Bound initiative. Launched during the 2020 lockdown, Spiral Bound trains aspiring screenwriters and has since grown into a global mentoring platform, recently surpassing 2,000 members and completing 865 online and offline sessions.
To honor emerging writers, Boman hosted a special Spiral Bound gala, attended by Bollywood stars including Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Aamir Khan, and filmmaker Shoojit Sircar.
Speaking to the media, Abhishek Bachchan praised the initiative, saying, “Our writers and scriptwriting are the foundation of filmmaking. We are very proud of Bomzy. It’s important that people of his stature lead the way and give writers the encouragement they deserve.”
Anil Kapoor emphasized the significance of strong content, stating, “A blank paper and writing a screenplay is the toughest job. I have immense respect for it. This is a great endeavor that Boman is doing. The more screenwriters we have, the better it is for our industry.”
Aamir Khan, congratulating Boman, added, “He started a writing course to teach screenplay writing to youngsters. I used to tell him I wanted to join the class, but today is my first chance.”
Shoojit Sircar also lauded the platform, saying, “Script is everything. Writers coming together on one platform is wonderful. This initiative is exactly what the industry needs.”
This year’s edition of Spiral Bound will see participation from the Moscow Film Cluster, reflecting the growing collaboration between Indian storytellers and international production spaces.
Boman Irani expressed his heartfelt commitment to the initiative, saying, “For me, this is a lifelong commitment. If Spiral Bound can help even a few writers find their voice and build meaningful careers, it’s fulfilling its purpose.”
