Keonjhar, Dec 13: Tension erupted in Keonjhar following the death of a tribal student at a private school in Bhubaneswar. Family members and villagers staged a protest in front of the Keonjhar District Collector’s office, placing the student’s body there to demand justice.

The deceased has been identified as Shiva Munda, son of Raghunath Munda of Ghumura under Keonjhar Town Police Station limits. Shiva was a Class 9 student at the Bhubaneswar school.

According to the family, the school authorities had informed them yesterday morning that Shiv had fallen in the bathroom, resulting in a broken leg, and was admitted to a hospital. The father traveled from Keonjhar to Bhubaneswar, only to be handed his son’s body. The family also claimed that no medical treatment records were provided.

On examining the body, the family noticed rope marks on Shiva’s neck and hands, prompting them to file a murder complaint at Keonjhar Town Police Station. They demanded the arrest of the guilty and compensation of ₹1 crore.

Police later intervened, persuading the protesters to disperse, and sent the body to the District Headquarters Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
