Once planted, the crop survives for five years, regenerating on its own. Farmers can harvest the grass every two months, ensuring a steady stream of raw material.
Prabhakar established a steam distillation unit to process the harvest. The procedure is straightforward: the grass is cut, dried for two days, and then steamed for four hours. This process extracts valuable essential oil, while the leftover dried grass serves as fuel for the furnace, creating a zero-waste cycle. From one ton of grass, the farm extracts approximately eight to nine liters of oil, which is highly valued for its medicinal properties and use in sanitizers, soaps, and fragrances.
