Bhubaneswar, August 7: In a proactive move to address persistent waterlogging problems in the city, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has intensified field-level interventions across various affected areas. Senior officials, including BMC Mayor Sulochana Das and BMC Commissioner Chanchal Rana, IAS, are closely monitoring on-ground progress.
Earlier this morning, Commissioner Rana visited waterlogged areas in Panchasakha Nagar under Ward 64. The visit focused on direct community interaction and on-site assessment to fast-track practical solutions. During the inspection, it was noted that several key interventions from WATCO are pending and require urgent attention.
In response, the Commissioner issued a directive to WATCO to initiate immediate remedial actions, particularly along BT Road and other vulnerable locations in the ward, within the next 48 hours. A follow-up visit has been scheduled for one month later to review progress.
Additionally, the inspection revealed instances of encroachment and inadequate street lighting in certain pockets of the locality. The Commissioner directed BMC officials to address encroachment issues through community engagement and dialogue. Select areas have also been earmarked for beautification as part of BMC’s urban enhancement initiatives.
Commissioner Rana emphasized the need for active community participation to resolve these civic issues effectively. The visit saw the presence of officials from WATCO, BMC staff, the local corporator, and concerned residents.
BMC continues to prioritize flood mitigation and civic improvement efforts citywide in anticipation of ongoing monsoon challenges.
