Bhubaneswar, Aug 13: With an aim to ensure better sanitation and hygiene in the capital city, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday launched SHINE (Sanitation, Hygiene Inspection for Neat Environment) initiative.
The initiative was launched in a special event in the presence of Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das and BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange.
The SHINE initiative will comprise 10 teams with each team having five members equipped with special uniforms and vehicles.
These teams will conduct inspection rounds across the city to tackle unlawful disposal of waste and take action to clear the waste dumping. They will also focus on raising awareness about the benefits of maintaining a clean environment among the residents, stated Sulochana Das.
Stringent actions will be initiated against the violators, she added.
The launch of SHINE initiative assumes much importance as menace of dengue and other vector-borne diseases are growing in the city.
