Bhubaneswar, May 1: In a significant move towards improving flood mitigation and urban resilience, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has signed an agreement with MaRS Planning and Engineering Services Pvt Ltd to serve as the Project Management Consultant for a Rs 200 crore drainage infrastructure project.
The initiative will address 13 stormwater management proposals, which are jointly funded by the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) and the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC).
As part of the agreement, the consultant will prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and oversee the implementation of structural, area-specific drainage solutions.
The project targets vulnerable zones across Bhubaneswar, including areas like ISKCON–Behera Sahi, Bomikhal, and the AIIMS campus, which frequently experience severe waterlogging during the monsoon season.
The upcoming infrastructure will provide much-needed, long-term drainage solutions to reduce flooding risks.
This initiative is part of BMC’s broader vision for sustainable urban development and enhanced disaster preparedness.
Once completed, the project is expected to alleviate urban flooding, improve traffic flow during rains, and elevate the overall quality of life for residents of Bhubaneswar.
