Bhubaneswar, Sept 5: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has outlined several key decisions to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of Durga Puja celebrations in the city. In a preparatory meeting held recently, the corporation took important steps to enhance the overall experience for both devotees and visitors.
One of the major decisions taken was the strict prohibition of obscene dance performances during the Puja festivities, aiming to maintain the sanctity of the celebration. Additionally, the BMC stressed the importance of adequate parking facilities, stating that no Meena Bazaar would be allowed to operate without proper parking arrangements. Similarly, no permission will be granted for Ravana Podi (effigy burning) events unless sufficient parking is ensured.
To further promote sustainability, the BMC has decided that the Puja celebrations will be free of plastic. The Puja committees will also be prohibited from setting up barriers on major roads, ensuring smoother traffic flow.
As part of the safety and emergency measures, control rooms will be set up at all immersion points, and ambulances will be deployed to handle any medical emergencies. The police department will also raise awareness about the dangers of smoking in Puja pavilions through the distribution of awareness messages.
In addition to safety and sanitation measures, the BMC has prioritised infrastructure improvements in the city. A special focus has been given to repairing electric poles and wires, as well as road maintenance. A deadline has been set for completing all road repairs before the start of the Puja, and an amount of Rs 5 lakh has been allocated to each ward for pothole repairs.
To ensure a safe environment for visitors, the BMC Commissioner has instructed the removal of stray dogs from Puja pavilions.
These decisions were made in a meeting attended by senior officials from various departments, including the police, Watco, and the fire brigade, who have come together to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and smooth Durga Puja celebration in Bhubaneswar.
