
Bhubaneswar, July 24: Jagannath Pattnaik, Executive Engineer with the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), has been arrested by Odisha Vigilance on charges of amassing disproportionate assets (DA) beyond his known sources of income. He will be produced before the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar later today.
The arrest follows the registration of Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case No. 16/2025 against Pattnaik. During extensive searches at multiple locations linked to him, Vigilance officials unearthed assets vastly exceeding his known income.
The seized properties include three multi-storeyed buildings—one in Bhubaneswar and two in Gunpur—along with a farmhouse, three high-value plots in Bhubaneswar, 460 grams of gold, bank deposits exceeding ₹80 lakh, and a Grand Vitara SUV. Additionally, officials recovered a pair of antler horns and a country-made gun, for which Pattnaik failed to provide satisfactory explanations.
In a related development, the Forest Department has registered OR Case No. 3 of 2025-26 under the Balipatna Forest Range, Khordha Wildlife Division, against Pattnaik under Sections 9, 49, and 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 for the illegal possession of antler horns.
The investigation is ongoing.
