Former Prime Minister remembered for economic vision and integrity.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited 24 Akbar Road in New Delhi this Friday to offer floral tributes to Dr. Manmohan Singh. Today marks exactly one year since the former Prime Minister and legendary economist passed away. The atmosphere was solemn as party members gathered to reflect on the life of a man who steered India through critical transitions.

Dr. Manmohan Singh breathed his last on December 26, 2024, in Delhi at the age of 92 due to age-related health complications. His passing closed a significant chapter in Indian political history. Shortly after, he was cremated with full state honors at Nigambodh Ghat, leaving behind a legacy defined by humility and profound intellectual depth.

Across the country, political figures shared their respect. Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar highlighted how Singh’s policies, specifically the RTI Act and MGNREGA, bridged the gap between the government and the common citizen. Shivakumar noted that Singh always prioritized national institutions over political gains. Similarly, leaders like Supriya Sule and Ajit Pawar hailed him as the "architect of economic reforms" whose vision transformed the Indian market during the 1990s.

Born in 1932, Singh’s journey from a dedicated scholar to the 13th Prime Minister of India was extraordinary. He did more than just hold office; he revolutionized the Indian economy. As the RBI Governor in the early 1980s and then as Finance Minister in 1991, he opened India’s doors to global trade. His ten-year tenure as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 remains a period characterized by steady growth and the introduction of significant social safety nets.

Even after retiring from public life in 2014, Singh remained a respected voice on economic and national matters. On this Manmohan Singh death anniversary, the nation remembers a leader who spoke softly but achieved much, proving that integrity and quiet determination can indeed change the course of a country.
