Kalimela, Feb 9: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Kalimela Police seized a huge quantity of cannabis worth over ₹1 crore from the forest area of Vezangiwada under Kalimela Block.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the police conducted a raid deep inside the forest and recovered 1,250 kilograms of cannabis, which had been concealed by smugglers for transportation to another state. The contraband was packed in 54 plastic bags, police officials said.

The Officer-in-Charge of Kalimela Police Station confirmed the seizure and stated that the estimated market value of the recovered cannabis is over ₹1 crore. However, no arrests have been made so far in connection with the case.

An NDPS Act case has been registered at Kalimela Police Station, and an investigation is underway to identify those involved in storing and trafficking the contraband. Police are probing the ownership of the seized cannabis and the network behind the illegal operation.
