Bhubaneswar, March 13: Western Odisha is likely to witness severe heat conditions over the next three days, with temperatures expected to cross 40°C in several places, according to the Meteorological Department.

On Thursday, Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature in the state at 40.8°C. Several other regions also experienced intense heat. Hirakud recorded 39.2°C, while Sambalpur and Sundargarh recorded 39°C each. The temperature in Bhubaneswar reached 38.6°C, followed by Rourkela at 38.4°C. Titilagarh and Talcher recorded 38°C.

The scorching sun and hot winds made outdoor conditions uncomfortable across many parts of the state. The heat remained intense until around 4 PM, after which people experienced slight relief as the hot winds subsided. Weather experts have warned that heatwave conditions may intensify further in the coming days.

Meanwhile, under the influence of Kalbaisakhi (Nor’wester) weather systems, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and hail are likely in parts of North and Coastal Odisha on March 15 and 16.

According to the forecast, storm and rainfall may occur on March 15 (Sunday) in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, and Bhadrak, with winds likely to blow at 30–40 kmph. On March 16 (Monday), thunderstorms with rain may affect Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur.

The Meteorological Department has also indicated the possibility of light rainfall at isolated places on March 17 and 18.
