Cuttack, June 5: The BJP has scripted history by winning the Lok Sabha and two Assembly seats from Cuttack, which was being called the bastion of BJD.
The saffron party won the Cuttack Sadar and Niali Assembly segments along with the Cuttack Parliamentary constituency.
Besides, independent candidates Bijay Dalabehera and Sarada Pradhan who won Badamba and Mahanga Assembly segments respectively, were BJP leaders earlier.
BJP's Bhartruhari Mahtab won the Cuttack Lok Sabha seat for a record seventh consecutive term by defeating his BJD counterpart Santrupt Misra by a margin of over 30,000 votes.
BJP candidate Prakash Sethi defeated BJD candidate Chandra Sarathi Behera by a margin of 3,744 votes in Cuttack Sadar Assembly segment and party's Chhabi Mallick won Niali Assembly seat defeating BJD’s Pramod Mallick by 1,386 votes.
On the other hand, Dalabehera defeated BJD’s veteran, six-time MLA and former minister Debi Prasad Mishra by a margin of 23,167 votes.
In Mahanga, Pradhan defeated senior BJD leader and former minister Pratap Jena’s son Ankit Pratap Jena by 7,564 votes.
BJD’s Devi Ranjan Tripathy won Banki seat by a margin of 17,026 votes and in Choudwar-Cuttack party’s Souvik Biswal defeated BJP candidate Nayan Kishore Mohanty by a margin of 17,750 votes.
Meanwhile, Congress managed to retain the Barabati-Cuttack Assembly seat where the party’s candidate Sofia Firdous defeated BJP's Dr Purna Chandra Mohapatra by a margin of 7,974 votes.
In Salipur Assembly segment, BJD’s Prasanta Behera won by 7,611 votes defeating his BJP counterpart Arindam Roy.
Likewise, BJD minister Ranendra Pratap Swain won from Athagarh Assembly segment by a margin of 3,584 votes.
