New Delhi, July 14: The Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to appoint its new National President by December this year as the tenure of JP Nadda has come to an end.
Despite Nadda’s term being extended until June 2024, he has now been assigned significant responsibilities within the government, prompting the BJP to seek a new president.
The party aims to appoint a new national president by December this year, with the election process set to commence on August 1.
The BJP has outlined a detailed timeline for the election process. Initially, a comprehensive membership drive will be launched on August 1, running until September 15. Following this, an active membership campaign will take place from September 16 to September 30. The verification of active membership is scheduled from October 1 to October 15.
According to the BJP party constitution, every member must renew their membership every nine years. This year, the membership campaign will require the Prime Minister, the party president, and all party leaders to renew their memberships.
From November 1 to November 15, the BJP will hold elections for Mandal (local unit) presidents, followed by district president elections from November 16 to November 30. Sources within the BJP indicate that after the Mandal and district president elections, members of the state council and central council will be elected. The election process for state presidents will commence on December 1, following the elections in 50 percent of the states. This phased approach ensures the BJP’s organizational structure is robust and prepared for the leadership transition.
The upcoming elections are crucial as the party gears up for future political challenges and opportunities.
Notably, JP Nadda has been appointed Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha. Elected as Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat, Nadda holds the Health, Chemicals, and Fertilizers portfolio in the Modi 3.0 cabinet, following the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
As the BJP embarks on this systematic and phased leadership transition, the party remains focused on strengthening its organizational framework at all levels, ensuring readiness for the new national president's election and future political endeavors.
