New Delhi, Sep 15: Hours after Arvind Kejriwal announced his plan to resign as Delhi's Chief Minister in two days, the BJP on Sunday termed the resignation plan as 'PR stunt'.
BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari alleged that Kejriwal is attempting to salvage his image by mimicking Sonia Gandhi's strategy of placing a figurehead in a prominent role while maintaining control behind the scenes.
Bhandari claimed that Kejriwal’s move is designed to deflect criticism of his leadership, which he argued is now seen as corrupt, and to distance himself from the negative perception of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa also criticized Kejriwal, suggesting that the resignation is not a genuine sacrifice but a response to a Supreme Court order that prohibits him from holding office or signing documents.
Sirsa accused Kejriwal of using the two-day window to persuade MLAs to appoint his wife as the new Chief Minister.
He argued that Kejriwal's resignation is a consequence of legal constraints and his alleged involvement in a liquor scam, rather than a voluntary step.
In his announcement, Kejriwal stated that he will step down from his position as Chief Minister until the people of Delhi publicly affirm his integrity.
