Bhubaneswar, November 22: A day after the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee, Puri approved a proposal for inventory of jewellery and valuables stored in the refurbished ‘Ratna Bhandar’ of the 12th century shrine, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Saturday said that a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the inventory will be brought soon.

“As per provision, the Shree Jagannath temple administration will prepare a SOP for the inventory of valuables and send it to the State Government for the approval. Once the State Government approves it, the inventory process will begin which will take two-three months. The SOP will be released very soon,” said Harichandan.

The ornaments and other valuable items will be digitised during the making of the inventory, said the Law Minister.

Harichandan said that each piece of jewellery will be recorded and matched with the inventory report of 1978. The Government will take the help of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for the inventory of Ratna Bhandar, in a bid to make the entire process transparent.

The last inventory of both the chambers of Ratna Bhandar was done in 1978 by a nine-member committee headed by the then Governor of Odisha BD Sharma.

Meanwhile, the ASI, the custodian of the temple, had completed repair of the Ratna Bhandar, which was opened in 2024 after four decades for the renovation work and inventory-related matters.

Sources said the inventory of jewellery and valuables will be completed before April next year.
