New Delhi, Aug 30: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has finalized the names of more than 50 candidates for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections during its Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting held on Thursday, party sources revealed.
The CEC meeting, presided over by BJP President J.P. Nadda, saw the participation of key leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santhosh. The finalized candidate list is expected to be officially announced within the next 48 hours.
Following the CEC meeting, Prime Minister Modi held a separate discussion with Home Minister Shah and Party President Nadda. During this meeting, the leaders deliberated on potential electoral alliances for the Haryana polls and discussed key constituencies where prominent leaders, including Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, might contest. Sources indicate that Chief Minister Saini may run from the Ladwa assembly seat in Kurukshetra instead of his current seat in Karnal.
Talks between the BJP and Jayant Chaudhary's Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), as well as Gopal Kanda's Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP), regarding a potential alliance are reportedly in the final stages. If the alliance is formalized, the BJP is expected to field candidates in 85-87 of the 90 assembly seats.
The CEC meeting was also attended by BJP Haryana election co-in-charge and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Haryana BJP Chief Mohan Lal Badoli, and other senior leaders like Satish Punia, Surendra Singh Nagar, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, and MP Rao Inderjit Singh.
The Haryana Assembly elections, where all 90 members of the Legislative Assembly will be elected, are scheduled for October 1, with the results to be declared on October 4.
