Shimla, June 1: Setting an example of civic responsibility, BJP National President J.P. Nadda and his wife Mallika Nadda kickstarted the voting process as the first voters at a polling station in their native town in Bilaspur district, Himachal Pradesh, for the seventh and final phase of general elections on Saturday.

Addressing the significance of voting, Nadda remarked, "I was honored to be the first voter at this polling booth. I urge all voters to participate actively for the betterment of a self-reliant India." In a message shared on social media, Nadda emphasized the importance of democratic participation, especially among the youth. He highlighted the transformative potential of each vote in shaping a prosperous and inclusive nation.

"Your vote holds the power to shape a government dedicated to realizing the vision of a developed India, prioritizing national interests, progress, and the welfare of all citizens," Nadda's statement read.

 

Encouraging citizens to exercise their franchise, he added, "Step out and cast your vote to ensure the success of the democratic festival."

 

Polling commenced with 57.11 lakh eligible voters casting their ballots for four Parliamentary seats and by-elections for six Assembly constituencies in Himachal Pradesh until 6 p.m.

Key contenders in the election include Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur, former Union Minister Anand Sharma, Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut, and Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh, vying for Lok Sabha seats.

 

For the Assembly by-elections, BJP fielded candidates supported by six Congress rebels who had backed the party in the Rajya Sabha elections.

 

The Assembly by-poll candidates include Sudhir Sharma from Dharamsala, Rajinder Rana from Sujanpur, Ravi Thakur from Lahaul-Spiti, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal from Barsar, Chaitanya Sharma from Gagret, and Devender Bhutto from Kutlehar.

According to the Election Commission, a total of 57 lakh voters will determine the fate of 37 candidates contesting for the four Lok Sabha seats and 25 candidates for the Assembly by-polls on six seats.
