Chandigarh, October 15: The autopsy of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar was conducted after a nine-day delay, following consent from his wife, senior IAS officer Amneet P Kumar. The post-mortem took place at PGIMER, Chandigarh, and his last rites were held at Sector 25 crematorium in the afternoon.
Amneet had initially withheld consent for the post-mortem, demanding action against the Haryana officers named in her husband’s alleged suicide note. The family agreed after receiving assurances from the Chandigarh Police and Haryana government regarding a fair investigation. Amneet expressed confidence in the probe, stating she hoped for a professional and impartial investigation to ensure justice.
The case has drawn significant political attention, with opposition leaders demanding action against the accused officers. Last week, the Haryana government sent DGP Shatrujeet Kapur on leave and transferred Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya. The Chandigarh Police also formed a six-member team to investigate the case.
A note allegedly left by Puran Kumar accused eight senior officers, including DGP Kapur, of caste-based discrimination and harassment. His wife called for the arrest of the officers named in the note. Amidst the controversy, ASI Sandeep Lathar, who had arrested Puran Kumar’s aide, also reportedly committed suicide, raising further concerns. Protests from Dalit groups and opposition parties have continued in Haryana.
