Jaisalmer (Rajasthan), November 29: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today flagged off the new Jaisalmer–Delhi (Shakur Basti) rail service, the Swarn Nagari Express. The service, starting from Jaisalmer Railway Station, will operate regularly from December 1 and is expected to enhance connectivity between Jaisalmer, Delhi, Jaipur, and Jodhpur.

During the inauguration, Vaishnaw highlighted ongoing infrastructure improvements in Jaisalmer, including the upgrading of the Jaisalmer–Jodhpur railway track, the construction of a second entry gate at Jaisalmer Station, and the establishment of a coaching depot. These projects are set for completion soon, with work on Jaisalmer station expected to wrap up within a month.

Vaishnaw also emphasized the importance of the Swarn Nagari Express for Jaisalmer, which sees around 15 lakh tourists annually. Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Sekhawat joined Vaishnaw at the event.

Additionally, Vaishnaw noted that new railway lines are being built to strengthen border security in Rajasthan, including links between Anupgarh, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Bhildi, with further upgrades to the Jaisalmer–Jodhpur line.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the completed Jaisalmer station.
