BJD calls off Bhubaneswar Bandh over police assault on Army Captain and fiancée: Know why

Bhubaneswar, Sept 23: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) called off the 6-hour Bhubaneswar Bandh scheduled on Septemeber 24 (tomorrow), protesting the assault on the Army Captain and his  fiancée by the Bharatpur police.

Senior BJD leader and Nayagarh MLA Arun Kumar Sahu informed it on Monday.

While addressing in a press meet held in the BJD office (Sankah Bhawan) today, Sahu said that the party has withdrawn its decision to hold Bhubaneswar Bandh which was scheduled on Tuesday.

In view of the Judicial Probe ordered by the Odisha government, the proposed Bhubaneswar Bandh has rightly been postponed with the approval of the BJD President Naveen Patnaik, Sahu added.

BJD President and LoP, Naveen Patnaik on Saturday had demanded a judicial probe into the case involving custodial assault of an Army Captain and his fiancée by the cops in the Bharatpur police station. 

Worth mentioning, the Odisha government today ordered a judicial probe into the matter and a notification was subsequently issued by the Home Department. 

"The State Government do hereby appoint a Commission of Inquiry consisting honourable Justice Chitta Ranjan Dash, retired High Court Judge, to enquire into and report in respect of the following matters within 60 days from the publication of this notification," the Home Department notification read.
