Bhubaneswar, April 5: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Friday appointed Monideepa Sarkhel as the working president of Biju Sramika Samukhya, the party's labor front. Monideepa, along with her supporters, including Chhabilata Rout, vice-chairperson of Paradip Municipality, had joined the regional party on March 17.
Monideepa’s husband Arindam Sarkhel, popularly known as Bapi Sarkhel had resigned from Congress on Thursday.
In his resignation letter addressed to Sarat Pattanayak, the president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC), Sarkhel expressed his desire to focus on the well-being and advancement of workers. He stated, "Ensuring improved living standards for workers has been a longstanding aspiration throughout my tenure as a trade union leader."
