Jharsuguda, May 17: Jharsuguda Police have busted a bike theft racket and arrested two individuals in connection with the case. Acting on specific intelligence and CCTV evidence, police recovered 42 stolen motorcycles from a forested area, bringing relief to residents troubled by a recent spike in vehicle thefts.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sanatan Rohidas (52) of Old Town, Jharsuguda, and Ananta Luhura (53) of Lefripara, Sundargarh. According to police, the duo was part of an organized racket targeting parked motorcycles across the city and adjoining areas.
Following rising complaints of vehicle thefts, a special team was formed under the directive of Jharsuguda SP Smita Parmar. The team analyzed CCTV footage from multiple locations, which ultimately led to the identification and arrest of the culprits.
Addressing a press conference, Northern Range IG Himanshu Lal and SP Parmar confirmed the recovery of 42 stolen bikes. Of these, 28 have been traced to cases registered in various police stations across Jharsuguda and Sundargarh districts. Investigation is ongoing to determine the origins of the remaining 14 motorcycles.
Police officials stated that efforts are underway to identify the rightful owners of the recovered vehicles and to dismantle any remaining links of the racket.
