Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: The audio and trailer of the Odia film ‘Kanda Mastre’, rooted in Odisha’s rich culture and traditions, were unveiled at a grand event attended by the film’s producer, cast and crew members.

Based on a unique and fading tradition of Odisha, the film highlights the emotional practice observed during a bride’s farewell ceremony. Traditionally, brides sing poetic verses expressing their feelings while bidding goodbye to their parents and relatives. The makers say the film attempts to revive and portray this cultural essence, which is now rarely witnessed.

Kanda Mastre is adapted from a successful play by noted playwright and litterateur Zakir Khan. The film has been produced and directed by Biswajit Panda, while the story and dialogues have been penned by Zakir Khan. The screenplay has been jointly developed by Panda and Khan.

The film features Lipsa Mishra in the lead role, alongside Vibhu Prasad, Prithviraj Nayak, Dharitri Khandual and Swetashree Padhi in prominent roles. Cinematography has been handled by Swarnaprasad, while editing is by Kritarth Chittaranjan Natekar and Montu. Ajesh Mishra has managed the sound design. The music has been composed by Bikash Das and Shantanu Nayak, with lyrics written by Bapu Goswami and Santosh Nayak. Itishree Panigrahi serves as the creative producer.

According to the production house, the film is slated for release in theatres across Odisha on February 27. The makers have expressed confidence that the film will receive audience appreciation, continuing the positive response that Odia cinema has been garnering in recent times.
