Bhadrak, Jan 7: A young man was critically injured after being bitten by a rare snake in the Chayalasing area under Banta block of Bhadrak district. The incident occurred when the youth, out of excitement, handled the snake and placed it around his neck.

According to reports, the incident involved Subal Sahu, a resident of Chayalasing. He noticed a white-colored snake inside his house while having his meal. Initially, when he tried to pick up the snake, it did not bite him and slipped to the ground. Moments later, he lifted the snake again and put it around his neck. During this time, the snake bit him on the hand, leaving him seriously injured.

Family members rushed him to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. The snake was also taken to the hospital for identification, but doctors were unable to identify the species.

Later, based on information provided by the treating doctors, the General Secretary of the Snake Helpline identified the reptile as an albino rat snake. The Snake Helpline team subsequently rescued the snake.

The condition of the injured youth is reported to be stable under medical supervision.
