Patna, July 19: Bihar’s Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kundan Krishnan has issued an apology following widespread criticism over his recent remarks that appeared to link a rise in violent crimes in the state to the cropping season.
In a short video statement released on Saturday, Krishnan, who serves at the Police Headquarters, clarified that his comments were misrepresented and expressed deep respect for the farming community.
“Greetings to my farmer brethren,” began the 1994-batch IPS officer in the under-two-minute message. “A portion of my statement during a recent press conference was reported in a distorted manner. At no point did I intend to imply that farmers—the providers of our food (annadata)—are in any way connected to crime.”
He reiterated that he holds farmers in high regard and regretted any misunderstanding caused by his earlier remarks.
