Bhubaneswar, Jan 12: The Capital Hospital blood bank has faced shortage of blood due to lack of blood donation camp.
The blood bank which used to have units in surplus is now struggling to stock even 20 units a day while it needs around 90 units per day.
Over 2000 patients visit the hospital daily for treatment. Blood is very necessary for critically injured accident victims, thalassema patients, brain stroke patients and surgery. Around 90 to 95 blood units are necessary for emergency cases daily.
Similarly, the data of e-blood bank and over the counter data of the blood bank differ from each other.
No mega blood donation camps have been organised in Bhubaneswar city during the last few months. Few social outfits are organising camps but that is not sufficient to cater to the need, said Capital Hospital Director, Dr Laxmidhar Sahoo.
