Bhubaneswar, June 21: The Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar on Friday claimed to have cracked the kidnapping case of a woman and revealed that the she has staged her abduction with her boyfriend to extort Rs 1 crore from her brother.
The cops have arrested two persons-woman's boyfriend and his friend.
They have been identified as Devi Lal Ola and Pradeep Kumar Ola (boyfriend).
The woman, who was living separately from her husband, had came in contact with Pradeep through social media platform Instagram. Later, they developed relationship.
As per reports, the woman identified as Smrutirekha Pangi, who was residing at Trident Galaxy Apartment in Chandaka area on outskirts of Bhubaneswar with her parents, was kidnapped from Satsang Vihar area near Vani Vihar on Thursday. Later, the abductors had demanded a ransom of ₹1 crore for her release.
Following this, Smrutirekha’s family members lodged a complaint with Chandaka police. Acting on it, a special team was formed and swung into action. Thereafter, the cops found the woman with Devi and Pradeep in Nayagarh.
During interrogation, Devi and Pradeep revealed that Smrutirekha had hatched the conspiracy and staged her own abduction with a motive to extort Rs 1 crore from her brother, who is an online trader. She had also promised to marry Pradeep after getting the said amount.
