Bhubaneswar: Three arrested for drugging & gang-raping aspiring singer

​​​​​​​Bhubaneswar, Sept 14: The Twin City Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar arrested three individuals for allegedly drugging and gang-raping an aspiring singer, after deceiving her with promises of a music career.

The accused have been identified as Chandan Kumar Hati alias Chandu (25), Prasanna Kumar Acharya (37), and Rajesh Kumar Das (32). They were apprehended by the police and were presented in court on Saturday following their arrest.

As per reports, the incident took place in the Chandrasekharpur area of the city on Wednesday (September 10).

The complainant alleged that the accused lured her from her village with a deceptive promise of introducing her to a music director and assisting her in launching a singing career. Later on September 10, they took her to a lodge in Chandrasekharpur and offered her a spiked soft drink. After drinking it, she lost consciousness following which she was confined in a room and the accused took turns to sexually assault her.

When the survivor regained consciousness, she found herself confined in a room, where the men reportedly threatened her to stay silent about the incident before sending her home. However, the woman later confided in her elder sister, who subsequently filed a police complaint.

In her complaint, the survivor identified Chandan as the primary accused, claiming he was the one who allegedly lured her to Bhubaneswar.

A case was registered based on the survivor’s written complaint, and all three accused were apprehended in Jagatsinghpur district.

According to the police, during interrogation, the men confessed to their involvement in the crime. They were subsequently produced in court.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
