Bhubaneswar, Feb 9: Three marriage mandaps have come up along the New Airport Road and most are located just by the road. These facilities have no dedicated parking space which prompts people to park their vehicles on road side, clogging the entire stretch.
Similarly, the Chandrasekharpur government Kalyan mandap situated by the road side causing traffic jam on Jayadev Vihar- Nandankanan road. The organisers are erecting tents on the parking place bribing the management following which people are parking their vehicles on road side.
Illegal marriage mandaps have mushroomed across the Bhubaneswar city. As many as 32 illegal Kalyan mandaps were identified in South-West zone of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC). The BMC had issued notice to seal the mandaps, however, only three mandaps were sealed in three years. The situation is very same in North zone. Several illegal mandaps have oped in Patia, Chandrasekharpur and Damana area
None of the police stations of these areas care a damn about regulating the affairs.
During a marriage procession, peak traffic rush is experienced between 7.30 pm and 9.30 pm. While in marriage receptions, the surge in vehicular movement is between 10 pm and 11 pm imagine the pain travellers have to endure!
It is the BMC which regulates the mandaps but it has given only lip service to the problem.
