Bhubaneswar, Aug 23: A high-level review meeting on the city’s Drainage Master Plan and stormwater management was convened on Friday evening at the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters to chalk out a long-term strategy aligned with the capital city’s growth vision up to 2050.
The meeting was chaired by BMC Commissioner Chanchal Rana and attended by IIT Roorkee professor D.S. Arya, City Engineer Bilas Kumar Behera, ADM Dr. Manoranjan Sahu, and senior officials from Smart City, BDA, IMD, OSCDMA, Water Resources Department, Revenue Department, IDCO, along with other technical experts.
Officials informed that the upcoming Drainage Master Plan for Greater Bhubaneswar will provide an integrated framework covering road networks, utility mapping, facility management, encroachment identification, and effective waterlogging solutions.
To ensure accurate planning, a GIS-based mapping survey is being carried out by scientists from IIT Roorkee. They also presented their interim progress report at the meeting. The comprehensive survey, which includes detailed data collection, is expected to be completed by December.
In a move towards transparency, it was decided that the collected data will be uploaded on the Bhubaneswar-One Citizen Portal for public access and multipurpose use. The plan will feature both long-term and short-term measures, with citizens’ convenience and urban resilience at its core.
IIT Roorkee has already outlined a roadmap for implementation, while the Water Resources Department has lauded the survey efforts.
