Bhubaneswar, Dec 25: Christmas is being celebrated with vibrant enthusiasm across Odisha today, as people from different faiths join in the festive spirit. Special midnight masses, visits to churches, carol singing, and the exchange of greetings and gifts marked the occasion in various parts of the state.

In a beautiful display of devotion, Christians gathered in churches late last night to attend the traditional midnight mass. The sound of hymns and prayers filled the air as devotees united to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The serene atmosphere was complemented by churches adorned with lights, candles, bells, and Christmas trees. Many churches also displayed cribs and scenes depicting the birth of Jesus, adding to the celebratory ambiance.

Aseema Dixit, who attended the midnight mass at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Satya Nagar, shared her deep connection with the occasion. “I have been part of the Christmas celebrations for over a decade,” she said, describing the day as special and meaningful for both her and her family.

Lawrence, another devotee, emphasized the spiritual significance of the day. “Christmas is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by Jesus Christ,” he said. For many, attending mass and offering prayers are key parts of the day’s observances.

While the religious aspect is central, Christmas in Odisha is also known for its joyful celebrations. The holiday brings with it cakes, gifts, music, dance, and a general spirit of togetherness and happiness that people eagerly anticipate each year.

In western Odisha, where the Christian population is higher, homes, streets, and churches were brightly illuminated and decorated, creating a colorful and festive atmosphere throughout the region. The Christmas decorations added a cheerful vibrancy to the landscape, further spreading joy and goodwill among all.

As Odisha celebrates Christmas, the blend of faith, joy, and community spirit is palpable, making it a truly special occasion for people of all backgrounds.
