Bhubaneswar, Oct 27: The Commissionerate Police has initiated a pilot project in which officers at the reception desks of police stations will wear body cameras. This measure aims to monitor interactions with visitors, particularly those who may cause disturbances.
The body cameras will record both audio and video, capturing the behavior of police personnel as well as that of visitors. This initiative responds to recurring incidents of unruly behavior at police stations, including cases where intoxicated individuals have verbally abused officers.
Additional Police Commissioner Uma Shankar Mishra visited the Kharvela police station in Bhubaneswar to observe the new equipment in action.
This project follows a troubling incident in September, when an Army officer and a friend were allegedly assaulted by police at the Bharatpur station, leading to the suspension of five officers, including one at the rank of Inspector, for serious misconduct.
