Bhubaneswar POCSO Court sentences man to 20 years for sexual assault

Bhubaneswar, May 20: A special POCSO court in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday sentenced Manas Nayak to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor in 2021.

Additional District and Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge (POCSO) also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the convict. In default of payment, Nayak will undergo an additional one year of imprisonment.

The court further directed that a compensation of ₹6 lakh be awarded to the survivor.

The case originated from Khordha Model Police Station and was registered as Case No. 352/2021.

 Nayak was convicted under Sections 363, 365, 366, 376(2)(n), and 376(3) of the Indian Penal Code, read with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Special Public Prosecutor Subrat Priyadarshi represented the case on behalf of the prosecution.
