Bhubaneswar, Nov 12: A massive fire broke out following an explosion at a firecracker godown near the Infocity area in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
The explosion was so intense that it engulfed the entire facility in flames and caused multiple cracks to form in the walls. The blast was audible from miles away, sending shockwaves through the neighborhood.
Nearby, a hostel suffered damage as the explosion shattered its glass windows, scattering debris across the surrounding area. Local resident Priya Das described the scene, stating, "We heard a loud bang, and our windows shook. It was terrifying.”
On being informed, the Odisha Fire Services Department personnel reached the spot and doused the flames.
Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties from the incident. However, it has raised significant concerns among residents regarding safety protocols at sensitive sites like firecracker warehouses, especially in residential and commercial areas within the smart city. As resident Suman Patnaik expressed, "We need better safety measures to protect our community from such dangerous incidents."
