Bhubaneswar, March 13: The Communist Party of India (CPI) and Bharatiya Khet Mazdoor Union (BKMU) staged a protest rally demanding shifting of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Temporary Transit Station (TTS) near Sainik School.
Leaders and workers of the both organisations began a protest rally from Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Park at Gadeswar in the city and marched towards the temporary dumpingyard near Sainik School through Rangamatia, Gadakana, Dhirikuti slum and Railway colony.
They demanded immediate shifting of the TTS threatening the BMC to intensify their protest in coming days.
Notably, The TTS near Sainik School has become a major concern of people in the surrounding area with the pile of dump. The stench from the garbage hill has made the life of locals miserable with many complaining health issues.
The students of Sainik School and Central School are suffering the most. Both the schools have been forced to keep their windows closed to get rid of hazardous effects of the garbage site located barely 100 metre away from their premises.
Residents of Mancheswar, VSS Nagar, Shahid Nagar, Acharya Vihar, Damana, Chandrasekharpur, and Rangamatia areas are suffocating in the foul smell of garbage.
