Bhubaneswar, May 10: A Bhubaneswar Court on Thursday sentenced three persons to a Rigorous Imprisonment of 20 Years for their alleged involvement in brown sugar trading in Odisha. The Court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 Lakh on them. Failure to pay the fine would result in an additional year of RI.
The accused have been identified as Debasish Behera alias Rinku, Prabir Kumar Singh alias Situ and SK Kauusar Ali of Balasore.
The trio was apprehended by the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police near Esplanade Mall in Rasulgarh, Odisha, on June 19, 2020, while transporting four kilograms and 458 grams of brown sugar in a vehicle.
Following an investigation, the accused were charged under Section 21(c)/29 of the NDPS Act, with the prosecution presenting 13 witnesses and 79 documents during the trial. The court ordered the destruction of the seized brown sugar.
